The U.S. Department of Transportation recently awarded 238 Airport Improvement Program grants totaling $615 million to support critical airfield safety upgrades and family-friendly features in terminals at airports in 42 states and two territories.
The program is intended for infrastructure projects such as lighting, markings, runways, signage, taxiways, and other safety-related needs.
“We’re improving safety and efficiency at airports throughout the U.S.,” FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said. “We’re prioritizing these grants in a time when Americans are traveling more than ever, ensuring we fulfill our promise to transform the passenger travel experience.”
Awardees include:
Midland International Air & Space Port in Texas was awarded $21.5 million for runway rehabilitation.
Noatak, Alaska, was awarded $19.5 million to build a new airport.
San Diego International Airport was awarded $15.3 million for noise mitigation.
Gary/Chicago International Airport in Indiana was awarded $8.3 million for a new contract tower.
Lynchburg Regional Airport in Virginia was awarded $8 million for a new terminal.
Wilmington International Airport in North Carolina was awarded $6.3 million for runway rehabilitation.
Sacramento International Airport was awarded $2.4 million for new passenger boarding bridges.
“American families deserve state-of-the-art runways, taxiways and infrastructure that will make their travel experience safer, smoother, and more efficient,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said.
