The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) recently hired Samantha Silverberg to be undersecretary of transportation policy, effective Monday.
“We have an amazing team here at MassDOT and bringing on Samantha Silverberg and the experience that she brings further demonstrates the commitment we have towards delivering a transportation system that best serves communities, businesses and people across the Commonwealth,” MassDOT Interim Secretary Phillip Eng said. “Gov. (Maura) Healey and her administration have entrusted us to ensure transportation drives housing, jobs and quality of life and we are building the leadership team to meet the needs of today and future generations.”
Silverberg is a visiting fellow at Harvard Kennedy School’s Taubman Center for State and Local Government. As undersecretary of transportation policy, she will oversee policy development and implementation, and manage special projects and initiatives.
Silverberg previously was a senior transportation official in President Joe Biden’s administration. She held three roles, the final in the Office of the Chief of Staff as deputy assistant to the president for infrastructure implementation and was Biden’s primary policy adviser on transportation and infrastructure.
Silverberg worked for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority during Gov. Charlie Baker’s administration as capital program planning senior director and deputy chief administrative officer.
