On July 30, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Major Access Permits process will become fully electronic. The move supports Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s executive order to simplify and modernize the state’s regulatory processes to save time and money, and improve affordability, accountability and transparency.
The change applies only to new submissions. All paper applications already in process will continue to be reviewed, but no new paper applications will be accepted after July 29. Digital applications must be submitted through the NJDOT Major Access E-Permitting system. The web-based system manages, tracks and documents the permit process.
“Moving the Major Access Permitting process to a completely electronic platform will provide better reporting capabilities for NJDOT staff, making it easier and more efficient to process and track applications,” NJDOT Commissioner Priya Jain said. “Through Gov. Sherill’s leadership and the use of technology, we are modernizing our processes and making NJDOT more responsive to our customers.”
Property owners and developers that want to build, modify or change access to state highways must obtain a permit through the Bureau of Major Access Permits. By moving to all-digital, NJDOT will have a complete, structured record of access permit interactions and will have better control over the data.
