The Washington State Department of Transportation (WDOT) recently launched a Good To Go! incentive program to encourage drivers to purchase their toll passes before tolling starts on the SR 99 tunnel this summer.

WDOT will give away a limited number of stickers for free. The stickers regularly cost $5.

To get a free sticker, drivers must complete a survey. Passes will be mailed within four weeks. Drivers then must activate the pass by adding it to their Good To Go! accounts. Accounts must be opened with $30 in prepaid tolls.

The SR 99 tunnel, which runs two miles under downtown Seattle, opened toll free in February. The toll is required by the law to pay for tunnel construction bonds and operation and maintenance.

“Fewer than one-third of vehicles currently using the SR 99 tunnel have Good To Go! passes,” Edward Barry, WSDOT toll division director, said. “Using a Good To Go! pass is not just the most convenient way to pay a toll, but it’s the best way to make sure you’re paying the lowest toll possible.”

Tolls will vary based on time and day and will range from $1 to $2.25. Drivers without the pass will pay $2 extra per trip.
