SURE, the nation’s top personal insurance distribution platform, officially launched this week the first app-based rental car insurance with connections to all car rental companies.

The launch could be a revolution for an old industry, promising –for less than $10 per day– to get rental insurance for customers even as they are waiting in line for their car. For traditional car insurance added fees, policies vary and might result in higher fees for damages on might normally hope their insurance would cover. It can cost up to double a customer’s daily car rental rate. At $10 or less, however, SURE could potentially undercut its traditional competitors.

“SURE’s new rental car insurance product is launching just in time for the holiday travel season, which is high season for rental car usage,” SURE CEO Wayne Slavin said. “Renting a car can often be stressful during busy travel seasons. Customers want to have a pleasant experience and not have to experience high-pressure sale tactics at the rental car counter. Our goal is to make buying rental car insurance as quick, easy and comprehensive as possible while delivering better and more complete coverage.”

SURE pledges its services will cover all the way up to serious physical damage to rentals, and even additional drivers. They have also stepped beyond competitors to allow for coverage of flat tires and property theft. The whole enterprise is being underwritten by global casualty insurance company–and the nation’s largest commercial insurer–Chubb.
