The U.S. Department of Transportation will be awarding $626.7 million in Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight and Highway Projects program funds. Funding will support projects that boost supply chains and improve road safety by building highways, bridges and port infrastructure.
Funding will be allocated in two ways. Surface transportation projects of national and regional significance will be awarded $426.7 million. The application deadline is July 1. Projects that increase commercial motor vehicle parking will be awarded $200 million. The application deadline is July 15.
“From our thriving commercial space industry to our hardworking truck drivers, the Trump Administration is delivering for the American people,” Sean Duffy, U.S. transportation secretary, said. “We are moving at the speed of Trump to prioritize critical infrastructure needs in grants, move federal dollars out the door, and start turning dirt.”
The department will prioritize surface transportation projects valued at more than $150 million as well as projects that connect roads with commercial spaceports.
Eligible infrastructure updates include repairing highways or bridges to reduce congestion and bottlenecks, modernizing highway infrastructure along the nation’s busiest freight corridors, upgrades to safety technology at railroad crossings, strengthening marine highways, and building roads to air cargo hubs and commercial spaceports.
