The Kansas Department of Transportation recently awarded more than $13.7 million in federal and state funding for airport and energy grid resilience improvement projects statewide. Funding includes more than $10.1 million in federal Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act (IIJA) funding and more than $3.6 million in matching funds from the Kansas Infrastructure Hub and Build Kansas Fund.
The grants will strengthen transportation networks, enhance energy reliability, and promote long-term economic growth.
“These awards demonstrate the Kansas Infrastructure Hub’s commitment to supporting improvements across multiple sectors and ensuring communities of all sizes can compete successfully for federal funding opportunities,” Shawn Wesner, Kansas Infrastructure Hub executive director, said.
The hub serves as a resource center for communities to identify best practices for maximizing funding opportunities. The fund provides matching state dollars for projects that successfully apply for federal grants under IIJA.

The Doniphan Electric Cooperative was awarded $1.2 million in federal funding and $541,713 in
Build Kansas funding for a $1.8 million substation rebuild.
The city of Hays was awarded $1,3 million in federal funding and $65,302 in Build Kansas funding for a $1.4 million airport runway reconstruction project.
Wheatland Electric Cooperative was awarded $909,378 in federal funding and $417,556 in Build Kansas funding for a $1.3 million pole replacement and undergrounding project.
