The U.S. Department of Transportation announced the selection of four finalists to advance in the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Infrastructure Ideas and Innovation Challenge.

The Ideas Challenges is a competition for innovators across the private and public sectors to create a portfolio of breakthrough ideas in transportation technology which will then inform the research and development paths for ARPA-I, the DOT, and the transportation sector as a whole.

The four finalists were TruNav, LLC in Illinois, developing the concept “NavSentinel: A Resilient and Unspoofable GNSS Receiver;” Lacy Greening in Arizona, focusing on the concept “Agentic AI for Adaptive and Resilient Middle-Mile Freight Operations;” the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in Tennessee, with the topic “PRISM: AI-Powered Platform for Real-Time Intelligence in Shared Mobility;” and ARCTOS Technology Solutions, LLC in Ohio, and the concept of “Biologically Innovative Operations for Building Universal Infrastructure with Lean Durable Systems (BIO-BUILDS).”

The competition was announced last August.

““From the Wright Brothers to the Apollo missions, America invented transportation innovation,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy said during the competition’s launch. “Our new Ideas Challenge will continue that proud tradition and support the development of new 21st century technologies to launch us forward. Start your innovation engines!”

During the first stage of the competition, 15 semi-finalists were selected from 448 submissions from across the country. The semi-finalists submitted detailed proposals which allowed judges to select the Final Four finalists. In the finals, the four finalists will present their project proposal to a distinguished panel of judges and audience members from the public and private sector to compete for a share of $70,000 in prizes.

The finals will be held on Wednesday, June 24, at the DOT headquarters.
