The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) recently advanced the I-24 Southeast Choice Lanes project which features a $24.8 billion public-private partnership (P3) investment with DriveTN.
This is the largest P3 investment offered for an interstate Choice Lanes project in the United States.
The project would alleviate congestion between Nashville and Murfreesboro. The project would add two new Choice Lanes in each direction while preserving the current general-purpose lanes.
“This proposal demonstrates that Tennessee is leading when it comes to modernizing how major transportation projects are delivered,” TDOT Commissioner Will Reid said. “Just as important, TDOT is committed to partnering with the communities that depend on I-24. These meetings will allow residents to hear directly from our team, ask questions and better understand the project’s next steps.”
TDOT and DriveTN will host open-house community meetings in Nashville on Sept. 8 and Smyrna on Sept. 9 to share proposal details, answer questions and discuss what stakeholders can expect as the project advances.
As Tennessee’s population has increased so has traffic in urban areas, leading to chronic congestion on key corridors. An estimated $30 billion is needed to address congestion in both urban and rural areas, according to TDOT’s congestion studies.
