The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) recently opened the application period for the Wisconsin Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Connecting Corridors Program. Applications will be accepted through July 24.
The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program apportioned Wisconsin $78.65 million. Approximately $37 million has been awarded to support 78 projects statewide with 21 charging stations operational.
Two rounds of grants were awarded to businesses building charging stations along the state’s Alternative Fuel Corridor system, but the network is now fully built out. This round of funding will concentrate on designated corridors that provide additional charging options and support businesses in nearby communities and regions. The charging stations must be within one mile of a highway intersection or interstate exit and feature four charger ports.
“With more than 40,000 EVs registered in Wisconsin, and even more travelers coming here to visit, we’ve seen frequent and steady use of the chargers that are operational right now,” WisDOT Secretary Kristina Boardman said. “We’re eager to find opportunities to add more convenient choices for EV drivers and bring more visitors into local communities.”
Grants will cover up to 80 percent of eligible costs with prospective grantees required to provide a minimum 20 percent match of the eligible costs from nonfederal sources.
