The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently awarded the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) with the Gold Standard Award. The TSA presented the award at the SFRTA Governing Board Meeting on Friday.
The award recognizes a commitment to transit security and preparedness, and honors SFRTA’s most recent Baseline Assessment for Security Enhancement (BASE) review. BASE is a TSA program that evaluates transit agencies in 17 categories identified by the transit community as fundamental to a strong transit security program. SFRTA achieved high scores in all categories.
“We are proud to be recognized for our efforts and remain committed to maintaining high security standards while delivering reliable regional transportation,” David Dech, SFRTA executive director, said. “We appreciate TSA’s partnership and the continued support of our security guards and law enforcement partners across the three counties served by Tri-Rail.”
SFRTA previously earned the Gold Standard Award in 2013. Receipt of a second Gold Standard Award underscores the agency’s sustained focus on continuous improvement, security practices, and coordination with local, state, and federal partners, the agency said.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority also received a Gold Standard Award. The agency was recognized for demonstrating a sustained, systemwide commitment to keeping customers and employees safe.
