Fort Worth, Texas-based BNSF, one of the country’s leading freight transportation companies, announced on Monday that it had created a new team focused on single carload growth.
The First Mile/Last Mile team will combine the Class I railroad’s Shortline Development and Industrial Products Business Developments teams. Comprised of 13 people, the group will be led by General Director of Marketing Mark Ganaway and will be dedicated to growing the railroad’s carload volume.
“As our industry continues to evolve, every single carload is important to our network, and every single rail shipment helps our customers create more value for the nation’s consumer,” BNSF executive vice president and chief marketing officer Tom Williams said. “First Mile/Last Mile will be focused on providing solutions and breaking down those barriers, leading to a more streamlined supply chain from start to finish.”
The announcement comes on the heels of another announcement last fall when the company launched its Shortline Select program, combining the railroad’s customized shoreline service with its vast reach over its 32,500-mile network. The program spans 28 states and three Canadian provinces, the company said. First Mile/Last Mile furthers the company’s efforts to partner with shortlines and develop solutions that drive growth for customers.
Officials said the First Mile/Last Mile team will be primarily based at the company’s headquarters in Fort Worth.
