The California Congressional delegation is urging U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to support the inclusion of $2 billion in President Donald Trump’s 27FY Budget Request for transit funding ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In a letter to Duffy, spearheaded by U.S. Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-CA) and signed by 36 members of the California Delegation, including U.S. Sens. Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff, both (D-CA), the law makers asked for additional funds to invest in mobility initiatives.

“The lead time needed to plan for an event of the scale and scope of the 2028 Games means that the President’s Fiscal Year 2027 Budget Request will likely be the final opportunity to ensure that federal transportation funding can be made available in a timely manner in advance of the Games,” the lawmakers wrote. “These Games will be the largest and most spectacular sporting event in American history, providing an unparalleled opportunity to showcase America to the world. Like you, we collectively want to ensure that we have a safe, secure, efficient, and accessible transportation network in the Los Angeles mega-region for this global sporting event.”

The Congressmember said delivering on that goal would require the full support of the federal government working collaboratively with the state to implement a safe, secure, efficient and accessible transportation plan for the event.

Officials estimate million ticketholders from around the world will attend the event, contributing a projected $18 billion into the U.S. economy.
