The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) recently awarded 12 projects $9 million in NEVI Corridor Connections program funding to build electric vehicle charging stations along major roadways.

“These projects will expand access to electric vehicle charging from our alternative fuel connections and bridge the gap between long-distance travel and community based chargers,” PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said. “This is a critical step to improving relatability and access to meet the needs of EV drivers in the commonwealth.”

The largest grant was $1.1 million awarded to Dandy, operated by eCAMION USA, to build a charging station along Route 6 near mile marker 178.

The state already has committed $54 million in federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program funds to public charging stations statewide. The first NEVI station opened in December 2023. Since then, 30 more charging stations have been built, and 53 are in various stages of planning and construction.

Statewide, NEVI-funded charging stations have supported more than 80,000 charging sessions, and more than 9.6 million estimated miles driven and have reduced carbon dioxide emissions by more than 2,000 metric tons.

Gov. Josh Shapiro has sued the Trump Administration over the U.S. Department of Transportation withholding congressionally-apportioned funding that was intended to support EV charging construction.
