The Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) reports that 83,000 tests have been taken since the online Permit Test @ Home went into operation in March 2018.

The popularity of the test has been seen with teen drivers and their families as well as MVD customers and personnel. The online test eliminates the need for a teen, and their parent or guardian, to visit an MVD office to take the test. However, a visit is still needed to obtain the permit itself.

Because of the decreased number of visitors to their offices, the MVD reports these permit tests have helped reduce their offices’ average wait times from nearly 52 minutes in 2015 to about 22 minutes now.

Test takers still must be at least 15 years and 6 months old to gain their instruction permits through the system. Parents or guardians can set up a free personal account at AZ MVD Now, which is available through ServiceArizona.com. Potential drivers are also still required to pass a road skills test prior to gaining their actual driver license.
