ARTBA elects Robert Alger as newest chairman

Robert Alger

The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) elected Robert E. Alger as chairman for 2018-2019, the association announced last week at its national convention in New York City.

“Safety training and education have always been core ARTBA competencies,” Alger said. “We will continue to build greater awareness and participation in safety certification program by contractors and public agencies.”

Alger is president and CEO of the Lane Construction Corp., a Cheshire, Connecticut-based company, and has a 40-year career in the transportation construction industry.

During his time as head of Lane Construction, revenues increased from $350 million in 2001 to $1.7 billion. The company has grown from a regional contractor to a national firm constructing airport, bridge, dam and lock, rail, transit, tunneling, and massive lane-built highway projects throughout the United States.

With ARTBA, Alger has served as a trustee of the ARTBA Foundation, Contractors Division first vice president and president, and co-chairman of the Trans2020: “MAP-21 Policy Promotion, Implementation & Funding Enhancement Task Force.”

Alger also has had leadership roles with other industry groups including the Construction Industry Ethics and Compliance Initiative, the Construction Industry Safety Initiative group, the Moles, The Beavers, and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Construction Institute, and the Construction Industry Roundtable.
