U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Federal Aviation Administrator Bryan Bedford announced that Peraton will be the Prime Integrator for the FAA’s new air traffic control system.
Peraton will lead the efforts to roll out the new system that will be designed to enhance the safety and efficiency of the nation’s air traffic. The project received a $12.5 billion down payment as part of President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which passed earlier this year.
“We are thrilled to be working with Peraton because they share President Trump’s drive to modernize our skies safely at record speed,” Duffy said. “Working together, we are going to build on the incredible progress we’ve already made and deliver a state-of-the-art air traffic control system that the American traveling public — and our hard-working air traffic controllers — deserve.”
The Prime Integrator contract is structured to reward good performance and incentivize smart use of federal dollars. The contract will also penalize delays and poor performance, Duffy said. According to the DOT, Peraton’s expertise in integrating complex tech platforms and collaborating with federal agencies makes them a good choice to execute on President Donald Trump’s ambitious timeline to overhaul the country’s air traffic control system.
“We are taking bold action to ensure our air traffic system is the envy of the world,” FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said. “The One Big Beautiful Bill gave us a strong $12.5 billion down payment to start this modernization effort. But to finish the job—and deliver the safer, more efficient system travelers deserve—we’re going to need another $20 billion. This is a long-term investment in the future of air travel, and we’re committed to getting it right.”
The DOT said it aims to complete the overhaul of the air traffic control system in just three years. Once finished, the department promised the system will reduce outages, improve efficiency, reinforce safety and support growth for the nation’s airspace.
Officials said Peraton will begin working immediately by partnering with the FAA on initial priorities including transitioning the system’s remaining copper infrastructure to modern fiber and establishing a new digital command center.
