The North Carolina Railroad Company said it is investing up to $250,000 to support a new rail spur serving Atlantic Packaging’s warehouse expansion in Tabor City.
The rail spur will connect Atlantic Packaging’s new warehouse to the freight rail network, and allow the company to receive raw materials by rail. The rail spur will also support continued growth in Columbus County, the company said. Once operational the facility is expected to receive and distribute at least 480 rail cars annually, Atlantic Packaging is expected to invest more than $5 million into the project that will create 16 new full-time jobs.
“Freight rail gives North Carolina manufacturers a competitive advantage,” NCRR president and CEO Carl Warren said. “This investment helps an established North Carolina company expand its operations, strengthens the state’s supply chain and demonstrates how strategic rail infrastructure creates opportunities for businesses and communities alike.”
Through NCRR Invests, the company’s grant program, NCRR uses private revenue to fund rail infrastructure projects that help attract industry, as well as to support the expansion of existing businesses across North Carolina.
