The Port of Corpus Christi recently announced that it has achieved Green Marine Certification from Green Marine for its efforts in environmental management and leadership.

“The Port of Corpus Christi has once again demonstrated its leadership in achieving this certification in line with the port’s commitment to improving air quality, water quality, soils and sediments, wildlife habitat, and sustainability,” Sean Strawbridge, deputy executive director and CEO of the Port of Corpus Christi, said. “A hearty congratulations to all port staff who have worked diligently to achieve this milestone.”

Each certification process takes into account an organization’s benchmark annual environmental performance, which is subject to regular external auditing. Other ports to achieve the Green Marine Certification include the Marine Atlantic, Kinder Morgan Westeridge Terminal, the Port of Seattle, Glencore, the Port of New Orleans, and Ceres Terminals.

Currently, more than 100 companies from the United States and Canada participate in the program.

The Green Marine program works to provide a template for port authorities, terminal operators, and shipping lines to voluntarily reduce their respective environmental footprints. Included its evaluations are seven specific performance indicators for ports and seaports including air emission reductions, community impact minimization, and efforts in environmental leadership.

Located on the western portion of the Gulf of Mexico, the Port of Corpus Christi is the fourth largest port in the country in terms of tonnage and serves as a gateway for international and domestic marine commerce for Texas and the continental United States.
