The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced it would invest $610 million in America’s bus service network.
The Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Infrastructure Programs is the combination of the Buses and Bus Facilities Competitive Program (Bus Program) created in 2015, and the Low or No Emission Grant Program (Low-No Program), created in 2021 as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The program will deliver funding to purchase, rehabilitate, or lease buses and related equipment, and to construct, purchase, rehabilitate, or lease bus-related facilities; as well as funds for the purchase or lease of buses that use low- or no-emission propulsion technologies, including related equipment or facilities.
“Every day, millions of American families rely on buses to get around their communities,” FTA Acting Deputy Administrator Matthew Cahill said. “That’s why the Trump Administration is laser-focused on delivering reliable and modern bus infrastructure that will serve Americans for years to come.”
The grants will provide an estimated $21 million to support transit agencies for buying, leasing or rehabilitating buses, vans and bus facilities, as well as providing $589 million to support the purchase or lease of low-emission or no-emission buses, equipment and support facilities.
Officials said the application criteria are listed on the Notice of Funding Opportunity, and applicants are encouraged to submit eligible projects as soon as possible before the deadline of Sept. 21, 2026.
