Members of American Trucking Associations (ATA) program sponsored by PeopleNet, LEAD ATA, recently visited Washington D.C. to attend congressional meetings.

LEAD ATA is a program designed to prepare the trucking industry’s best personnel for leadership roles.

“Taking our LEAD ATA class to the U.S. Capitol and getting them involved in the legislative process creates a unique method for our industry’s message to be relayed,” ATA First Vice Chairman Dave Manning said. “ATA provides our future leaders a special opportunity to meet with members of Congress and legislative aides in person to discuss the issues that they’re passionate about both personally and professionally.”

LEAD ATA visited both chambers of Congress to see political activity on tax reform and infrastructure legislation. It also visited members of Congress and their aides.

Before their meeting, program members received a summary of legislative issues critical to the trucking from ATA President and CEO Chris Spear. Spear also explained ATA’s advocacy message.

The purpose of the trip is to establish relationships between industry leaders and legislators and to increase ATA’s grassroots efforts.

The visit comes as ATA has been actively advocating for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to implement a December rollout of Electronic Logging Devices.
