Short-line freight railroad operator Regional Rail said it has acquired the Massachusetts Central Railroad (MCER) as part of its Northeast expansion.
The acquisition includes a 28-mile railroad in Massachusetts, as well as MCER’s freight-hauling, storage and transload services for customers across the country. The acquisition also includes Wildwood Reload, a warehousing and transload services company. Officials said the acquisition further expands Regional Rail’s North American network, which already includes 18 railroads across 10 states and two Canadian provinces.

Backed by 3i since 2019, Regional Rail has grown from three railroads in the Northeast to 18 freight railroad operations across the country. The company provides freight transportation, car storage, and transloading services across the U.S. and western Canada.

The company also provides railroad crossing signal design, construction, inspection and maintenance services.
