North Carolina-based TTX Company, a railcar pooling company, recently announced CEO Tom Wells will retire on July 6.

Wells has been in the railroad industry for 42 years. He joined TTX in 2001 as Fleet Management senior vice president and became CEO in 2008. Earlier in his career, he spent 17 years at Norfolk Southern.

His comprehensive expertise includes asset management, car repair, transportation, sales and marketing. At TTX, he made contributions to terminal development, service design and capital planning, and intermodal operations.

The TTX board of directors appointed Marty Thomas to succeed Wells.

“I am very fortunate to have been a part of the rail renaissance following the 1980 deregulatory Staggers Act,” Wells said. “ It has been an honor to serve at TTX for the past 25 years with a team of dedicated professionals supporting our customers as the rail industry has continued to evolve. TTX is well positioned for the future, and I have tremendous confidence in Marty and the TTX team as they build on that foundation.”

Thomas has worked for TTX since November 2024 and was promoted to president in December 2025. He has been responsible for the company’s day-to-day operations. Prior to joining TTX, Thomas spent 29 years at GE Transportation and Wabtec.
