Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), one of the largest transit systems in the United States, is seeking information from developers regarding Germantown Station, a regional rail station.
The agency seeks information that will help advance mixed-use development at the station, specifically on an approximately 1.4 acre vacant property.
The project is part of SEPTA’s Transit Oriented Communities Program that encourages equitable and sustainable community development through the pursuit of joint development opportunities.
“To help grow revenues beyond the farebox, SEPTA is moving forward with joint development opportunities for transit oriented communities,” General Manager Scott Sauer said. “These help secure better returns on SEPTA’s real estate assets and promotes equitable and sustainable development around services.”
The agency has been approached multiple times over the years regarding developing the property, and it has been identified for revitalization by various planning efforts.
SEPTA coordinated with Germantown to create the Germantown Station Area Concept Plan. The plan identifies vacant and underutilized properties around the station with potential to become mixed-use, mid-rise buildings. The concept includes ground floor commercial space, upper floor apartments, Germantown station access and public amenities.
The also considers a second parcel and associated wooded properties for development. SEPTA seeks creative ideas on how the properties can be utilized to advance transit-oriented communities at Germantown Station.
