The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) thanked the state’s General Assembly for the $400 million investment in the state’s 2027 budget to support vital infrastructure improvements.
The TDOT said the money would support vital infrastructure improvements and that the non-recurring investment will support key investments in maintenance of existing assets that will allow the department to add new capacity-adding projects to its 10-Year-Plan.
The funds built on the $4 billion in investments and contracting authority the General Assembly granted to the TDOT over the past three years and reinforced the need to build efficiently and effectively to support the state’s growth. The department’s recently released updated 10-Year-Plan included the added funds for capacity-adding projects from the FY27 budget.
“As Tennessee continues to grow, we remain focused on modernizing infrastructure to move commerce and commuters across our state,” Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee said. “I thank the General Assembly for delivering significant funding to support TDOT’s 10-year plan and update current assets, all without raising taxes or new debt.”
The additional General Fund dollars increase the department’s ability to deliver a higher level of service across the state, officials said, and are planned for state-of-good-repair projects that ensure existing infrastructure is properly maintained, as well as for critical bridge investments
The department said $50 million of the money would be spent on maintenance, $150 million would go to the Bridge Preservation Program, and $200 million would go toward capacity-adding projects.
