The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) approved a construction authorization on May 27 to conduct rail crossings upgrades in four locations.
The Ohio Rail Development Commission filed the construction authorization, and CSX Transportation (CSX) and Indiana & Ohio Railway Co. (IORY) will complete the upgrades.
CSX will install flashing lights and gates at the Lyntz Road grade crossing in Trumbull County and will install flashing lights and gates at the T.R. 150 grade crossing in Hancock County. The Trumbull County project will use $334,515 in federal funds and must be completed by May 27, 2027. The Hancock County project will use $348,561 in federal funds and must be completed by Feb. 27, 2027.
In the city of Madeira in Hamilton County, IORY will install flashing lights and gates at the Shawnee Run Road grade crossing and will install lights and gates with preemption reconstruction at the Miami Avenue grade crossing. The Shawnee Run Road project will use $439,755 in federal funds and must be completed by Feb. 27, 2027. The Miami Avenue project will use $690,597 in federal funds and must be completed by Aug. 27, 2027.
The State Grade Crossing Safety Fund will award up to $5,000 per project to local governments to cover the cost of safety improvements during construction.
