The Federal Transit Administration announced it would invest nearly $390 million into 34 transit projects across the country to modernize the country’s aging bus infrastructure.

The funds will deliver almost 200 new buses to transit systems in 19 states and Puerto Rico, as well as build or rehabilitate 11 bus maintenance facilities. Funding comes from the FTA’s Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program, that supports transit agencies buying and rehabilitating buses and vans, as well as building and rehabilitating bus facilities. The selections were made from applications previously submitted under the original Fiscal Year 2025 Notice of Funding Opportunity and uses funding appropriated by Congress on Feb. 3, 2026.

“This is about making the investment today to ensure we are providing safer, more reliable and more efficient service for families today and for generations to come,” FTA Administrator Marc Molinaro said. “This Administration is committed to rebuilding our nation’s transportation infrastructure and helping to improve bus service nationwide.”

Officials said the announcement brings to $2.4 billion in FY 2025 and 2026 under the Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program, and the Low or No Emission Program to fund 199 projects in 48 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. The next Notice of Funding Opportunity for the programs is anticipated later in 2026.
