The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) recently awarded 27 projects nearly $47 million through four federal funding programs for federal fiscal years 2026-2028.
The awards were the result of a NMDOT Planning Division call for projects and included federal funding from the Carbon Reduction Program, the Congestion Mitigation & Air Quality Program, the Recreational Trails Program, and the Transportation Alternatives Program.
“These programs are critical for tribal and local public agencies, funding projects from planning through construction and beyond state roadways,” Robin Graham, NMDOT active transportation program coordinator, said. “They make multimodal safety and quality-of-life improvements possible, particularly in smaller and rural communities where these projects might otherwise never move forward.”
Projects include the design and construction of urban and rural multiuse paths and trails, Safe Routes to School programs, and transit operation and infrastructure upgrades.
Awardees include:
Rio Metro Regional Transit District was awarded $9.7 million for the New Mexico Rail Runner Express Operating Assistance Project.
Los Alamos County was awarded $4.5 million for the Cañada del Buey Trail Improvement Project.
Bernalillo County was awarded $4.3 million for the third phase of the Bridge Boulevard Project.
Bernalillo County was awarded $4 million for phase one of the Isleta Drain Trail Project.
