A $1 million aircraft fueling system recently became operational at the Gallatin County Airport in Sparta, Ky. The fueling system will boost the facility’s aircraft traffic capacity.
“Having a full-service fuel system now means we’re better positioned to serve corporate aircraft, flight training, and visiting pilots,” Ryan Morris, Gallatin County Airport Board manager, said. “This upgrade will increase airport revenue, help offset operational costs, and support future development of hangars, maintenance services and more aviation opportunities for our county.”
The airport opened in 2023 as a general aviation airport and is located near the Interstate 71 corridor that connects Louisville and Cincinnati. It is expected to become the home base for more than 20 aircraft and will host approximately 13,000 takeoffs annually.
The Kentucky Department of Aviation funded the project which began in May and was completed in October.
More improvements are planned at the airport including a new terminal building and hangars that are under construction. The hangers will increase in the number of aircraft that can be based at the airport.
The Kentucky Department of Aviation supports the maintenance, enhancement and growth of Kentucky’s 53 general aviation airports, allowing the airports to serve local economies, connect communities and support aviation education statewide.
