The Colorado Department of Transportation recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Vasquez Boulevard Improvements Project.

The project began construction in July with Construction Package 1 and is scheduled to be completed in early 2027. It will simplify an eight-way intersection at East 60th Avenue, Vasquez Boulevard and Parkway Drive to transform it into a standard, signalized four-way intersection. The change will reduce congestion and improve safety. The project also will enhance pedestrian and cyclist access.

“By working hand in hand with the Colorado Department of Transportation, Commerce City, and our regional partners, Adams County is helping deliver long-needed safety and mobility improvements along Vasquez Boulevard,” Adams County Board of Commissioners Commissioner Lynn Baca said. “This groundbreaking is a major step forward in ensuring our transportation network keeps pace with the needs of our growing community and is, above all and as is always our top goal, safe for all who use the roadways.”

More than 40,000 vehicles travel the corridor daily. The new design is the result of input from community members, businesses, and property owners who spoke about regional transportation challenges.

The event was attended by community stakeholders, project leaders, local partners, and elected officials from Commerce City and Adams County.
