The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony this week to celebrate the opening of the North Millsboro Bypass.

The $140 million North Millsboro Bypass Project improved traffic flow, safety and connectivity in Sussex County. Work included the addition of four bridges and an overpass and the construction of a two-lane connector road from Route 24 near Mountaire Farms westward to Route 113 north of Millsboro. The road is a grade-separated interchange at the intersection of Route 113 and Route 20.

“As someone who lives in this community, I know firsthand that this bypass is an important first step in our plan for improving daily travel for area residents,” Shanté Hastings, Delaware Department of Transportation secretary, said. “We are thrilled to provide motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians with a new multi-modal connection that will open later this week.”

Guests attending the ceremony included Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer, Lt. Gov. Kyle Evans Gay, Millsboro Mayor Bob McKee, Sussex County councilmen, and legislators.

“The North Millsboro Bypass is an investment in the safety, convenience, and economic future of Sussex County,” Meyer said. “Decades in the making, this project will ease congestion, improve safety, and make life better for families and commuters. We’re proud to finally bring it across the finish line.”
