Union Pacific recently ratified agreements with 11 unions, representing 46 percent of the railroad’s craft employees and covering 12 crafts.
The agreements cover five-year terms and were effective July 1. They included wage increases
additional vacation time, health and welfare benefits, and work-rule changes. Two of the largest railroad unions also approved interim agreements giving their members 3 percent pay increases as negotiations continue on long-term agreements.
“I want to thank all our union partners for their work in reaching these agreements,” Union Pacific CEO Jim Vena said. “It’s important we reward our employees without delay and acknowledge their contribution providing the safe, reliable service we sold our customers.”
The 12 crafts that ratified include the American Railway and Airway Supervisors Association,
Iron Workers, National Conference of Firemen & Oilers, International Union of Operating Engineers, the Transportation Communications Union, Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen, Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees, Brotherhood of Railway Carmen, International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Raises for the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen went into effect on Monday.
Union Pacific operates in 23 western states.
