The National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) Center for Research and Education’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Multistate Collaborative recently published papers that address states’ role in AAM and infrastructure needs, and lists opportunities to leverage existing general aviation infrastructure and approaches to harmonize policies across states.
The papers are the culmination of two years of thoughtful discussions of 36 NASAO state members.
“In the fall of 2023, a small group of state aviation officials began conversations regarding the need to collaborate and harmonize efforts of the states, working together to find consensus on how the states can manage the rollout of the ground-based policies and services supporting AAM,” Greg Campbell, Virginia Department of Aviation Director, said. “This culminated in the first meeting of what would become the AAM Multistate Collaborative AAMMC, near Dulles International Airport in Virginia, in November 2023. This small gathering of eight to 10 states in that initial summit, has evolved and strengthened, representing 36 states participating in the AAMMC which is now nationally recognized for its constructive collaboration.”
The papers can be found on the Collaborative’s new website.
The Collaborative will be a forum for states to discuss state-level policies and infrastructure regarding AAM operations.
