NJ TRANSIT, the largest statewide public transportation system in the United States, recently released a request for design-build teams for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the Northern Rail Maintenance-of-Way (MOW) Facility.
The facility, that will be located in Clifton, will replace an aging and flood-prone location in Wood-Ridge. Work will include demolition and environmental abatement of an existing building and substructures, site grading, constructing three buildings at two NJ TRANSIT-owned sites, coordination of site utilities and integration of maintenance equipment, new access roads and dedicated parking areas.
“This facility will provide more efficient maintenance and more dependable service, by ensuring our track repair equipment remains in a state of good repair,” Kris Kolluri, NJ TRANSIT president and CEO, said. “With this RFQ (request for proposal), we’re advancing a project that directly supports the long-term reliability and safety of our rail network.”
During the special prequalification process, NJ TRANSIT will evaluate design-build teams based on their technical qualifications, relevant experience and project approach. The agency will then shortlist the most qualified firms to move to the next phase.
The design must enhance the functions performed at the existing facility, accommodate increased maintenance demands, and incorporate updated features that meet current codes and operational needs.
