The Colorado Aeronautical Board recently approved $4.5 million in federal match and overmatch grant funding as part of the 2025 Colorado Discretionary Aviation Grant Program for airport infrastructure projects statewide.
Grants will support projects at 29 public-use airports.
The program ensures that airports serving urban, mountain, and rural communities can enhance aviation safety, modernize infrastructure, and improve access to Colorado’s Aviation System of 76 public-use airports.
“This year’s investment reflects a continued commitment to enhancing aviation safety, efficiency, and capacity across Colorado’s diverse air transportation system,” David Ulane, Colorado Division of Aeronautics director, said. “By leveraging state and local funding with federal programs, we are able to ensure Colorado airports remain vital economic engines for their communities.”
The board awarded $1.8 million in federal overmatch, $1.4 million in Airport Improvement Program funds and $1.3 million in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funds.
The board has approved 57 discretionary aviation grants so far this year, supporting 47 public-use airports.
The Colorado Aviation System was created in 1991. It is maintained through taxes collected on aviation fuel sold within the state.
The Colorado Department of Transportation’s Division of Aeronautics advances a safe, efficient, and effective statewide aviation system through collaboration, investment and advocacy.
