The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) hosted Louisiana Connected and Automated Vehicle (CAV) Innovation Day on Wednesday at its Baton Rouge headquarters.

“Our focus at DOTD is providing a safe and reliable transportation system for the people of Louisiana, and staying at the forefront of emerging vehicle technologies helps to ensure that we are keeping our economy moving and our communities connected,” DOTD Secretary Joe Donahue said. “CAV Innovation Day provides an opportunity to showcase the newest cutting-edge technologies available today, and for us to talk about how these technologies can enhance transportation safety and efficiency across our state.”

Partners for Automated Vehicle Education and Stantec co-hosted the event. Donahue and other leaders spoke, and the event featured autonomous vehicles on display and hands-on technology exhibits.

“Louisiana Economic Development is committed to making Louisiana a leader in emerging vehicle technologies, which increase safety and efficiency on our roadways and spur our economy,” Josh Fleig Louisiana economic development chief innovation officer, said. “We’re excited to welcome these tech innovators to Louisiana and show them what a great place our state is to do business.”

Louisiana allows autonomous to operate commercially on public roads.

This is the first year the event was held.
