Trucking organization seeks submissions for annual award

American Trucking Associations (ATA) is seeking submissions for the 10th annual Mike Russell Trucking Image Award. The award honors advocates for the trucking industry who spread a message of safety, essentiality and professionalism.

The award is sponsored by employment-screening-service company HireRight. It is awarded in four categories: motor carrier, industry supplier/Allied member, association or organization, and driver/owner operator.

“ATA believes that the image of our industry can only improve when trucking professionals and drivers go out and tell our story,” Elisabeth Barna, ATA Executive Vice President of Industry Affairs and COO, said. “Studies have shown time and again that when members of the general motoring public meet a trucking professional they are significantly more likely to have a positive view of our industry.”

Winners will be announced in Orlando Oct. 21-24 at the American Trucking Associations Management Conference and Exhibition.

The trucking industry employs 7.3 million Americans.

ATA uses outreach efforts to counter anti-trucking industry messages in the media. One such effort is Trucking Moves America Forward. Its mission is to educate the public on the importance of the trucking industry, strive for safer highways, improve the environment by using green technologies, and to respond to natural disaster with supplies.
