The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently awarded Capital City Airport in Frankfort, Ky., a $1 million Airport Infrastructure Grant.

The grant program supports airport terminal development projects that address aging infrastructure.

Capital City Airport will use the funding to build a terminal that better meets the needs of users.

“This is a big win for Kentucky’s aviation industry, and we’re grateful for the investment to modernize the airport’s terminal and enhance the experience for business leaders and tourists who take off and land from our capital’s airport,” Kentucky Department of Aviation (KDA) Commissioner Mark Carter said. “Airports are vital to the community, serving as gateways for economic growth and connecting us to broader opportunities.”

The KDA, under the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, oversees the airport.

The project also has received approximately $5 million in state funding. The project is expected to be under contract by the end of year. Construction will begin in 2025.

Capital City Airport is one of four state-owned public use airports in Kentucky. It facilitates more than 2,000 flights across 39 states, is the home base for more than 80 aircraft, and supports more than 361 jobs.

The airport also contributes millions of dollars in tax revenue.
