
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) recently awarded five public use airports $10 million in Aviation Transportation Assistance Program funds for facility improvements, infrastructure preservation, and development.
“Pennsylvania’s aviation industry provides good-paying jobs while linking communities to a larger transportation system that moves goods and people around the world,” PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said. “These investments are another example of Gov. (Josh) Shapiro’s focus on maintaining our infrastructure while also expanding business opportunities.”
Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport in Luzerne County received $6.2 million to expand the terminal and upgrade the Transportation Security Administration screening area.
Lehigh Valley International Airport in Lehigh County received $1.5 million to build a parking structure that will enhance terminal commercial development.
Doylestown Airport in Bucks County received three grants totaling $1.04 million for projects that will rehabilitate hangars, demolish four structures on airport property and extend public water access to the terminal area of the airport.
Quakertown Airport in Bucks County received $1.1 million to build three new hangars.
DuBois Regional Airport in Jefferson County received $225,000 to continue renovating its administration building.
In Pennsylvania, the aviation industry employs more than 226,000 people, has an annual economic impact of $34 billion and provides nearly $12.5 billion in payroll and employment benefits.
