The Georgia Department of Transportation, in partnership with We Are Teachers, an educational media organization, recently launched the Car and Road Safety Program.

The free, five-year program is aimed at students in kindergarten through 12th grade with the goal of educating youth on the importance of road safety and building road safety awareness from an early age.

The department urges educators to incorporate the program’s resources into their curriculum. Classroom resources include detailed lesson plans for all grades, interactive activities, classroom posters, road safety activity books for grades 3-5, a driving game, quizzes, and a virtual field trip across Georgia.

“We believe in the power of education to save lives,” Russell R. McMurry, Georgia Department of Transportation commissioner, said. “By equipping our young people with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe on the road, we are investing in their futures and the safety of our communities.”

We Are Teachers collaborated closely with an advisory group of 8-10 Georgia educators to develop the classroom materials in order to ensure the resources align with Georgia Department of Education standards. The process included comprehensive research and interviews.

The organization is known for its extensive reach and influence among educators nationwide.
