Amcor, a packaging solutions developer and producer, recently signed a memorandum of understanding with SK Geo Centric, a South Korean petrochemical company, to source advanced recycled material primarily in the Asia Pacific region beginning in 2025.

“Our ability to deliver more sustainable packaging solutions containing recycled material is increasingly important to customers in all consumer categories,” Mike Cash, Amcor Flexibles Asia Pacific president, said. “These partnerships will help enable Amcor to unlock opportunities for food and healthcare customers to leverage recycled content in their packaging, and will also foster a circular economy by significantly reducing the need for virgin plastic.”

Under the memorandum, Amcor will have access to packaging solutions using recycled content for food and healthcare customers in certain Asia Pacific and global markets.

SK extracts pyrolysis oil from end-of-life plastic waste, preventing it from being sent to a landfill.

Amcor is developing packaging that is increasingly light weight, recyclable and reusable, and manufactured using some recycled content. Its goal is to achieve 30-percent recycled content across its portfolio by 2030.

The company has existing global access to advanced recycled material through ExxonMobil and Australia’s Licella.

Amcor employs 41,000 people in 218 locations in 41 countries. It generates $14.7 billion in annual sales.
