New York airports receive $49M from state Transportation Department

The New York State Department of Transportation recently awarded 36 public-use airports statewide approximately $49 million in Aviation Capital Grant Program grants.

The projects will advance business development, enhance safety, facilitate innovation, leverage existing resources, and promote sustainability and resiliency.

“Gov. (Kathy) Hochul has once again shown that she understands that critical investments in transportation will cement New York’s place as a leader in global commerce and tourism,” Marie Therese Dominguez, New York State Department of Transportation commissioner, said, “These targeted investments will support projects that will have a positive, long-lasting impact on the local communities while improving the resiliency of our transportation infrastructure.”

Funding was distributed by region. Long Island received $1 million; mid-Hudson, $1.5 million; Mohawk Valley, $4.5 million; southern tier, $5.1 million; central New York, $5.5 million; western New York, $6.3 million; north country, $7.7 million; the Finger Lakes, $8.6 million; and the capital district, $8.8 million.

Awards ranged from less than a million to $2.5 million. The largest awards include:

South Albany Airport in Albany County received $2.5 million to construct a pre-engineered metal T-hanger and a pre-engineered, covered shade hangar.

Cortland County Airport in Cortland County received $2.5 million to construct a conventional aircraft storage hangar building.
