The Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) recently awarded 233 municipalities $4.04 million in state fiscal year 2024 Municipal Roads Grants-in-Aid Program grants.

Grants are awarded to municipalities that implement best management practices in accordance with the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation Municipal Roads General Permit.

Best management practices include addressing gully erosion on Class 4 roads; grass and stone-lined drainage ditches and stone check-dams; installation or replacement of drainage culverts and driveway culverts on nonperennial streams within right of way and installation of culvert headwalls and outlet stabilization; lowering of high road shoulders; stabilizing catch basin outlets; stabilizing conveyance zones; and turnouts, cross culverts, and other disconnection and infiltration practices.

Under the program, municipalities submit reimbursement requests for completed work, and the AOT reimburses up to 80 percent of documented construction expenses.
