The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) recently awarded $47.3 million to 32 local governments through the Local Bridges Fund.
The program is funded through the Transportation Trust Fund and helps New Jersey’s 21 counties improve county bridges. Grants are used to repair, reconstruct, and replace the bridges with the greatest structural deficiencies.
“The Local Bridges Fund grant program offers our local governments the ability to use grant funds to invest in bridge projects in their communities,” NJDOT Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti said. “This grant program, along with others, continues to demonstrate NJDOT’s commitment to communities throughout New Jersey.”
Grants were awarded between $350,000 and $5.9 million.
The largest awards include:
Colts Neck Township in Monmouth County was awarded $5.9 million to replace Bridge A-38 on County Route 54 over Hop Brook.
Hightstown Borough in Mercer County was awarded $3.2 million for Bridge No. 863.4-East Ward St. over Peddie Lake.
Stone Harbor Borough in Cape May County was awarded $3.05 million for Great Channel Bridge Superstructure Repairs and fender System Replacement.
Egg Harbor Township in Atlantic County was awarded $2.4 million to replace the Lakes Creek Bridge.
The NJDOT Division of Local Aid and Economic Development administers the grants, and the Department’s Bureau of Structural Engineering evaluates applications.
