Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s (MBTA) Green Line Transformation team will be holding a virtual public meeting on May 18 to discuss closures across the Green Line during the installation of Green Line Train Protection System (GLTPS) equipment and the replacement of over 2.5 miles of track.

GLTPS combines vehicle and wayside equipment to avoid train collisions, add red-light signal protection, and incorporate speed enforcement. When installed along the wayside, GLTPS will interact with the vehicle’s braking system.

“The work taking place during these full access Green Line closures will allow us to replace over two miles of track and accomplish important safety work on the Green Line Train Protection System,” MBTA General Manager Steve Poftak said. “When complete, the GLTPS will use safety monitoring equipment to help prevent train-on-train collisions, automatically stop a train when a red light is present, and incorporate speed enforcement.”

The Green Line Transformation 2022 construction schedule includes a 12-day closure from Boston College to Kenmore, a 12-day closure from Cleveland Circle to Kenmore, a 16-day closure from Health Street to Copley, and three nine-day closures from Riverside to Kenmore.

There will be alternative service provided for Green Line passengers during the closures to minimize service interruptions.
