A Missouri airport has received $4,795,103 in grant funds via the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Airport Improvement Program (AIP) for runway reconstruction.

The allotment to Joplin Regional Airport translates to the venue receiving almost $8 million in funding their rehabilitation efforts when combined with money provided with local funding and matched through the CARES Act, as well as $2,287,777 in entitlement grant money.

“I recognize the value Joplin Regional Airport brings to our district, which is why I worked so hard to secure the grant funding necessary to reconstruct their runways,” Rep. Billy Long (R-MO) said. “I am a strong supporter of strategic infrastructure spending because it directly drives economic prosperity, and I am confident these improvements will have a profound economic impact for the Joplin area. This is a huge victory for southwest Missouri, and I am grateful for DOT’s efforts in helping us secure this grant.”

Joplin Regional Airport Manager Steve Stockam said infrastructure projects protect valuable local assets and federal funding provides an economic stimulus by bringing federal dollars back into the community.

“This grant will provide funding to reconstruct the main runway at Joplin along with helping to bring jobs and positive economic impact to Southwest Missouri,” he said. “This grant is very important during these trying times, and we thank Congressman Long for his support.”
