Georgia awards $89M in transportation contracts

The Georgia Department of Transportation awarded $89.4 million to 29 construction contracts earlier this month.

The contracts bring the total awarded to $483 million since fiscal year 2019 began on July 1, 2018.

A total of 22 contracts were resurfacing projects. The remaining contracts were for safety projects and single construction projects.

The largest contract for $16.8 million was awarded to C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. and E.R. Snell Contractors for the resurfacing of a 15.1-mile stretch of I-75/State Route 401 from State Route 36 to State Route 155 through Butts, Henry, and Spalding counties.

The next largest contract was awarded to C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. and E.R. Snell Contractors for resurfacing 9.52 miles stretch of I-20/State Route 402 from west of Sweetwater Creek to west of State Route 5. The contract is for $15.2 million.

The largest safety project is the upgrading of 26.48 miles of pavement markings on I-16/State Route 404 from east of State Route 29 to the Candler County line in southeast Georgia. The $2.3 million contract is in Emanuel and Treutlen counties.

The largest single construction project is the widening and reconstruction of 1.32 miles of passing lanes on US 27/State Route 1 at Mulberry Creek to the north of Hudson Mill Road in Harris County.
