A project to rehabilitate the Main Street bridge over Norfolk Southern Railroad rails in Montgomery County, Pa., is scheduled to begin Feb. 18, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said.

During the project, expected to be completed in late June, the bridge and wall will be removed. A new bridge deck, sidewalk, and protective fencing will be added. Bridge approaches also will be paved and abutment repairs performed.

The single-span steel beam bridge, which was built in 1968, is 117 feet long and 44 feet wide.

Main Street will be closed between Reformed Road and Pennhurst Road. Drivers will be detoured during the closure.

The bridge is one of nine that PennDOT is repairing in Montgomery and Chester counties.

Six bridges already have been completed: Old Lancaster Road over Amtrak, Ross Fording Road over Octoraro Creek, Route 63 over Norfolk Southern Railroad, Route 611 over Pennypack Creek and over the Pennsylvania Turnpike ramp, and Quakertown Road over Macoby Creek.

Construction has yet to begin on Boot Road over Route 100 and Whitford Road over Valley Creek.

All nine projects are expected to be completed by August 2020 and cost $7.3 million. The projects are funded by the state’s transportation plan, Act 89.
