The U.S. Department of Transportation recently awarded 14 projects in 12 states $200 million in Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight & Highway Projects program grants to expand truck parking.

The program funds projects that improve road safety and boost supply chains.

“This investment will deliver hundreds of new spots across the country, helping hardworking truck drivers get the rest they need and reducing dangerous roadside parking on some of America’s most important corridors,” Federal Motor Carrier Administrator Derek Barrs said.

Awardees include:

The Iowa Department of Transportation was awarded $24.5 million to expand and modernize commercial motor vehicle parking at six public rest areas along I-80.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation was awarded $15 million to add approximately 106 parking spaces along a rural area of I-41 in Dodge County.

The Georgia Ports Authority was awarded $11.95 million to build a commercial motor vehicle parking area containing approximately 275 spaces at the Port of Savannah.

Cameron County, Texas, was awarded $9 million to create a public commercial motor vehicle parking facility near the Los Indios Port of Entry with approximately 305 truck parking spaces.

The city of Fort Worth was awarded $5 million to add approximately 100 parking spaces at the Pilot Travel Center along I-35.
