The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently awarded $345 million in competitive preparedness grant programs for fiscal year 2018, which will help governments, nonprofit agencies and the private sector with terror preparedness efforts.

Transportation is assisted in its efforts through the Transit Security Grant Program (TSGP), the Intercity Passenger Rail (IPR) Program, the Intercity Bus Security Grant Program (IBSGP) and the Port Security Grant Program (PSGP).

“The TSGP provides money to owners and operators of transit systems to protect critical surface transportation and the traveling public from acts of terrorism and to increase the resilience of transit infrastructure,” the DHS said.

A total of $88 million was award through TSGP. Recipients include the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, $18.3 million, the Chicago Transit Authority, $10.7 million, and New Jersey Transit, $9.4 million.
